NEW SPORT GETS OFF TO FLYING START
08:50 - 14 January 2008

Gordie Oliver, 37, was practising the moves and turns at the Aberdeenshire ski centre.

Mr Oliver, who is a paragliding instructor in the Lake District and used to be a ski instructor at Aviemore, said the sport, which originated in the Alps, was a dream come true.

"It's different from snow kiting, where you use the kite to go up the hill or across," he said. "With speed flying, you are going straight down the hill at about 40mph."

Scotland / UK speedflying?

I'd like to connect with some speedflyers in Scotland. I'll be living in Glasgow for a few months starting on Wednesday. I come from the skydiving / BASE world, as opposed to paragliding, so my kit's a bit different. I also prefer to hike and foot launch, rather than use skis at resorts (which I won't have with me, anyway). Please PM.

Thanks,
Steve
