I am currently at 30,000 ft. and on my way to Salt Lake City, Utah, to take a course in Speed Flying, specializing in Foot Launching!
I like the name speed flying better, because:
1. I am and always will be a Sky Diver, and 50% up the jump is flying in my high velocity eliptical canopy...
2. The country where I want to practice speed flying is Colombia, and we have beautiful, high, big mountains all over... Mostly green and rocky... But just the same... Colombia is in the heart of the Andes Mountains... With mountains ranging from 5,780 meters, with snow or with out. Perfect place to start, a perfect sport for this type of region.
3. Like someone said before in this sport you are either a skier who rides down the mountain with a wing, thus Speed Riding... Or a real pilot (paraglider or skydiver) who is looking for the ultimate rush... Thus Speed Flying!!!
Either way, I believe it is in a class of it's own, and soon there won't be a difference between a Speed Riding skier and a Speed Flying pilot... Just one new breed of adventurer!
Blue Skies and Utah I'm almost there!

I think it should be called para-speed as you are using a para glider effectively, but hitting higher speeds than an average para glider would use.
The fact you are skier with the wing doesn't mean the same thing with the all others )))
Speedriding and speedflying are quite different things, speedriding is the riding with the wing, but speedflying is not riding but only flying near the surface (riding takes place also, but during the launch and landing only(with possible exceptions)).
speed riding smeams better because the top priority is to ride not to fly. We are skieurs with a wing not paragliders with skis.
i Agree to the above.
Speedriding is the right name for skiing with a wing.
Speedflying refers to footlaunched speedwings or parachutes where exept of starting and landing there is no toching the ground involved, but rather proximity-flying the terrain.
I am a paraglider interested in doing speedflying Not riding. The reason I am living in George South Africa the Adventure " capitol" of South Africa. No snow !But I am sure we do have the mountains with a constant sea breeze of air flow. What are the requiremants for a mountain to fly ....Same as Paragliding ? I think it is a new market to explore ? Lot of activities in the Garden Route -George- South Africa. Can anybody help ?
