Niviuk - Skate

The SKATE is more than a simple evolution of the NOOKY, it's Niviuk's new speed-riding glider for the 2008/09 season. After almost one year of intense work, many prototypes and the result of the experience acquired with the earlier product Niviuk feel that the Skate will be even more suited to the demands of the speed-gliding pilots and the schools than even the very successful Nooky.

Easy to handle in all situations, highly resistant to roll, a wide speed range and a unique profile provides the ability to glide parallel with the ground in all relief. With three risers and a trim system which allows easy and effective adjustments to the angle of attack the SKATE can be securely set to follow the inclination of the slope, so preventing any unwanted take off. The result of all these improvements will make the SKATE a new reference in the discipline of speed riding. The reactions of the SKATE at high speed or with great weight are progressive, predictable and noble. The profile does not allow to accumulate an excess of energy. In this way the glider remains controllable and precise.

A new convertible harness/rucksack is also proposed with the SKATE. A new look with more volume than with the Nooky speed riding harness, fixings for skis and pockets for the quick folding bag (supplied) under the seat (for right or left handed pilots).

The Skate is available in 4 sizes: 8, 10, 12 and 14 m2.
All sizes are delivered with standard riser and trims and with sizes 10, 12 and 14 m² an extra set of school risers are supplied. The additional school risers allow the option for the experienced speed-riders to work with more security and also allow the secure and safe progression of the new rider. The Skate can confidently be called the "complete" speed-riding wing.

Pilot Review by flyincoboy - speed-flying.com...comment-188

I've tested this glider last weekend, it is absolutely great! Very easy to handle. I was a beginner in speedriding and i found it very intuitive, during inflation, turns, flight and landing.
I was flying the 14m², which is already very fast.
We noticed a big difference between the Nooky and the Skate. The Skate is easier to keep the skis on the snow (that's speedRIDING not speedFLYING Eye-wink ), this is what i was looking for. It is also faster (the Skate 14m² is faster than the Nooky 13m²).

The trim system is really efficient. It can even be surprising, and it must be used with care (especially, the setting must be symmetrical, but that's obvious, isn't it?). It is easy to handle, even in flight, and keeps the trim position when flying. I think it's important to have a good trim system so that we can modify the glide ratio with respect to the slope we are riding, i wouldn't buy a wing without trims!

The brakes must be used in the whole brake range (the maximum glide ratio is achieved with the hands at hip level).

This is a beginner's point of view. But good pilots testing the 8m² also looked amazed with the performances of the Skate!

The harness is comfortable, both when skiing and flying. One easily switches position without any effort.
The finition of this wing and harness is amazing.

The pack is sold with a quick folding bag, easy to use, and when skiing and getting back up on the chairlift, you can clip it in a ring at shoulder level.
